This song is about getting together with my partner and love without gendered expectations. My intention was to write a song that reflected and celebrated the love and joy that have been added to my life by my partner and our relationship while doing my best to avoid what i see as the pitfalls that love songs can often fall into. often love is expressed in songs via feelings of ownership, a persistence towards foreverness, gender stereotypes and unrealistic expectations of unhealthy dedication - which i think we could do without haha ! I'm not saying i succeeded - that's up to what you think when you hear it i reckon - but that was the idea 😊
TLDR; its a fun song about bein fuckin gayyyyyy !
lyrics
I didn’t come in costume
aye , i’m just me on a really great day
i wont hate tomorrow if i can just think of funny things to say
to you tonight
to you tonight
to you tonight
to you tonight
doing sit ups in my bedroom trying to empty out my mind
and convince myself that I don’t think about you all the time
in every single timeline I ride straight back to your house
I don’t stop to think to try to figure it out
my normal hesitations and my usual doubts
waking up still sleepless , mumble about working less
upside down I watch his body twist as he gets dressed
you’re laughing at me laughing , why i’m laughing – I don’t know
the forces made to shape us clearly don’t have much control
if I am sure of anything i’m sure of us
youre easy to trust
in every single timeline I ride straight back to your house
I don’t stop to think to try to figure it out
my normal hesitations and my usual doubts,,,
at any given moment I could slip down through the cracks
interrogate the words scrawled on the back of your hand
obsess over the lines that carve up both of your palms in search of clues
I don’t have to wonder cause you tell me all the time
everyday I’m grateful to wake up by your side
of all the times and places in the whole of our lives
I’m glad we’re here
